Châteauneuf-du-Pape: a jewel of the southern Rhône Valley

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is one of the most prestigious and emblematic of the Southern Rhône Valley. It is renowned for its powerful, rich, and complex red wines, as well as its aromatic and balanced white wines. This appellation benefits from an exceptional terroir characterized by its rolled pebble soils, its Mediterranean climate, and a winemaking history dating back to the Middle Ages.

A unique terroir and a historical heritage

Located on the left bank of the Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape covers approximately 3,200 hectares. Its terroir is distinguished by stony soils known as "rolled pebbles," which retain heat and promote optimal grape ripening. The appellation takes its name from the "new castle" built in the 14th century by Pope Clement V. Since then, winemakers have perpetuated ancestral know-how, blending tradition and modernity.

Grape varieties and wine styles

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the few appellations that allows up to 13 grape varieties, although the majority of red wines are primarily composed of Grenache , Mourvèdre , and Syrah . The red wines are powerful, with aromas of red and black fruit, spices, licorice, and often a touch of garrigue. The white wines, less common, are made from grape varieties such as Roussanne , Grenache Blanc , and Clairette , offering rich and aromatic profiles.
