Provence – Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence
The Château Pigoudet vineyard is the northernmost in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation. Located at an altitude of 400 meters, in the heart of a natural amphitheater at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, it benefits from an ideal south-facing exposure. The soils are composed of ancient alluvial deposits, calcareous silt, and eroded pebbles from the surrounding hills. This high-altitude terroir, combined with late harvesting at night, gives the wines a unique duality: freshness and maturity.

Château Pigoudet is an estate shaped by centuries of history. Planted during the Roman era, it later came under the authority of the Archbishopric of Aix-en-Provence for several centuries before being divided into several lots during the French Revolution. The property, in its current form, has remained unchanged since 1820. It rests on a rare harmony between architecture, landscape, and terroir. In 1992, Sabine Rabe and her husband, Hans-Ulrich, captivated by this exceptional place, decided to revive the vineyard. With determination, they restructured the plots, modernized the winery, and built a loyal and skilled team, notably under the leadership of Daniel Laugier, vineyard manager for over 30 years, now assisted by his son, Benoît. This family tradition, both in the vineyard and in the winery, is one of the estate's driving forces.
The late, nighttime harvest, often carried out in September, preserves the freshness of the aromas and prevents oxidation. The grapes are quickly transported to a state-of-the-art winery, opened in 2015, designed for crafting highly precise wines. The rosés and whites are vinified at low temperatures, under nitrogen, in perfectly controlled conditions. Each grape variety and each plot benefits from a tailored vinification process. The reds undergo a complex winemaking process: cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation in tanks, extended post-fermentation maceration, and malolactic fermentation on the skins, ensuring richness, roundness, and structure.
Château Pigoudet's wines, particularly the "Classic," "Insolite," and "Première" rosés, regularly win medals at international competitions (Decanter, Concours Général Agricole, Mundus Vini, etc.). The estate is also praised by the Hachette Wine Guide and Bettane & Desseauve for the consistency and quality of its wines. Renowned chefs and sommeliers now feature Pigoudet's wines on their wine lists for their finesse, freshness, and quintessential Provençal character.
Committed to sustainable practices, Château Pigoudet has followed the principles of responsible viticulture for many years. Phytosanitary treatments are applied selectively, only when necessary, and fertilization is organic. In 2019, the estate obtained the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, demonstrating its respect for biodiversity, water, and soil. This approach is part of a comprehensive vision where high quality standards, transparency, and respect for the ecosystem guide every decision.
Between millennia-old tradition, precision viticulture, and a strong environmental vision, Château Pigoudet combines heritage, modernity, and Provençal excellence. Its focus on quality, its artisanal approach, and its dedication to the terroir make it a true benchmark in Provence.
