Famille Perrin - Château de Beaucastel
Rhône Valley – South, mainly Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Château de Beaucastel, located at the northernmost edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, sits on an exceptional terroir of rolled pebbles, heavy clay, and limestone, bathed in the Mistral wind. This iconic site is the historical heart of the Perrin family. In addition to Beaucastel, the family also cultivates the terroirs of Vinsobres, Cairanne, Gigondas, and Ventoux, tailoring each winemaking process to the specific characteristics of the soils. The Miraval estate in Provence completes this exceptional portfolio, with a resolutely quality-driven approach.
Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah, Counoise, Cinsault, Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc
The Perrin family has cultivated vines for five generations with the same unwavering conviction: absolute respect for the terroir. As early as the 1950s, Jacques Perrin introduced organic practices at Beaucastel, well ahead of their time. Today, the 13 grape varieties authorized in Châteauneuf-du-Pape are cultivated biodynamically, giving the wines a rare depth and harmony. It is no coincidence that the family has become the largest owner of organic vineyards in the finest terroirs of the Southern Rhône Valley. The combination of talents within the same lineage ensures the continuity of a unique expertise. Faithful to artisanal traditions, convinced that only organic farming allows the true character of the soil to be expressed, the Perrins have successfully combined nature, precision, and the passing down of knowledge to elevate their name to the pinnacle of great French wines.
The vines are cultivated biodynamically, without herbicides or synthetic products. The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are rigorously sorted. Each grape variety is vinified separately, often in wooden vats, then blended after extended aging, partly in large oak casks. Mourvèdre, the signature grape variety, gives Beaucastel wines exceptional aging potential. The white wines benefit from fermentation and aging in barrels, revealing their richness and tension.
Château de Beaucastel is hailed as one of France's finest estates. International critics (Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Jancis Robinson, etc.) regularly award its wines scores exceeding 95/100. The "Hommage à Jacques Perrin" cuvée is considered one of the world's greatest red wines. The family's other wines also receive excellent ratings, confirming the consistency and excellence of the Perrin style.
True artisans of a demanding and luminous Southern Rhône, the Perrin family crafts sincere, powerful, and elegant wines. Their pioneering approach to biodynamic farming and their deep family roots make them essential references for lovers of great wines from the South of France.
