Appellations and terroirs
Domaine Dugat-Py cultivates 15 hectares of vines on exceptional terroirs in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. In Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate's historic heart, it manages a mosaic of prestigious vineyard sites, including six Grands Crus (Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin, etc.) and twelve Premiers Crus such as Fonteny, Lavaux Saint-Jacques, and Petite Chapelle. The estate also produces Village and Regional appellations, notably Vosne-Romanée, Fixin, Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Auxey-Duresses, as well as fine white wines from Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Corton-Charlemagne. The geological richness of these terroirs – clay-limestone soils, old vines, multiple orientations – allows for the creation of unique vintages, marked by finesse and depth.

Philosophy and History
Since 1645, the Dugat family has cultivated vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. Thirteen generations have succeeded one another, perpetuating unparalleled expertise. The Dugat-Py estate was officially established in 1994, when Bernard Dugat decided to combine his name with that of his wife. Their first wines date back to 1975, marking a qualitative renewal. Their son Loïc joined the estate in 1996, bringing a modern vision without abandoning tradition. The motto is clear: "No purchased grapes, no negotiated wine." All of the production comes exclusively from the estate's own vineyards. As early as 1999, some parcels (Chambertin, Cœur de Roy) were converted to organic viticulture, before the entire estate obtained certification in 2003. Parcel-by-parcel cultivation, the use of massal selections of old Pinot Noir vines, and a deep connection to the land forge the estate's unique identity.
Production specifics
The vines are worked by hand with meticulous care. Horse-drawn plowing is preferred in the most sensitive vineyards, such as Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, and Les Evocelles. The very old vines (65 years on average) yield little, but offer exceptional concentration. No herbicides are used, treatments are strictly limited, and the microbial life of the soil is respected. The harvest is done by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. In the cellar, fermentations are long, using indigenous yeasts and traditional maceration. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, the majority of which are new. No fining or filtration is carried out, in order to preserve the aromatic integrity. The cellars, nearly 900 years old, provide ideal, consistent, and natural aging conditions.
Recognitions
Domaine Dugat-Py is unanimously recognized as one of Burgundy's absolute benchmarks. Its wines feature in the world's finest selections and are sought after by discerning wine lovers and collectors. They regularly appear in specialized guides and reviews such as Wine Advocate (Robert Parker), Burghound (Allen Meadows), Bettane+Desseauve, and La Revue du Vin de France. The 1972 Charmes-Chambertin, already an award winner at the time, foreshadowed the current style: deep color, dense texture, noble tannins, floral expression, and a long, mineral finish. The wines are renowned for their exceptional aging potential, revealing rare depth and harmony after several years.
Located in the old village of Gevrey, at the foot of the Combe de Lavaux, the estate occupies the former cellars of the Benedictine almshouse, built in the 11th and 12th centuries. This historical continuity lends a unique dimension to the estate's production. Bernard, Loïc, and their team embody the transmission of strong values: exacting standards, humility, and respect for time. The Dugat-Py style, powerful, structured, yet always elegant, echoes the golden age of Burgundian Pinot Noir.
