Domaine Gallety – Ardèche elegance between rigor and winemaking passion

Domain name

Gallety Estate

Wine region

Rhône Valley / Southern Ardèche

Appellations and terroirs

Domaine Gallety is located in the commune of Saint-Montan, a charming village nestled in the southern Ardèche. It falls within the Côtes du Vivarais appellation, bordering the Rhône Valley. The vineyard, a single contiguous plot, covers 15 hectares surrounded by forest, garrigue, and terraced fields. The predominantly limestone soils combine rolled pebbles, stony clay, and ancient alluvial deposits. This geological diversity, combined with optimal sun exposure, promotes the ripening of the grapes while preserving freshness and balance. The best parcels, often situated on slopes, are reserved for single-vineyard wines such as La Syrare and La Ligure.

Iconic grape varieties

Reds: Syrah, Grenache (balanced blend in the classic cuvée)
White wines: Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne

Philosophy and History

The Gallety family acquired the property in 1974. At the time, the estate covered 80 hectares, a mix of vineyards, fruit trees, woods, and garrigue scrubland. Everything had to be restructured: selecting suitable grape varieties, shaping the plots, and rethinking the entire cultivation process. This colossal undertaking gave birth to an ambitious wine estate, resolutely focused on quality. Today, 15 hectares of vines flourish around a building typical of southern Ardèche, cultivated according to strict and environmentally friendly methods. For over 30 years, Alain and his son David-Alexandre have combined their passion to produce characterful, authentic, and elegant wines, true reflections of the Vivarais terroir.

Production specifics

Every stage of production is meticulously controlled, from the hand-harvesting to the bottling. The vines, some over 40 years old, yield concentrated grapes, guaranteeing depth and complexity. Vinification is carried out gently, with extended maceration for the reds (up to 21 days), followed by aging in barrels for 14 to 15 months. The whites, on the other hand, are aged in tanks to preserve their freshness and aromatic purity. Yields are intentionally limited, and rigorous sorting is applied during the harvest. The single-vineyard wines benefit from separate aging, designed to enhance the unique character of each terroir.

Recognitions

Domaine Gallety is recognized as a rising star in the Southern Rhône. Its classic wines are consistently praised for their finesse and balance, while single-vineyard wines like **La Syrare** and **La Ligure** captivate connoisseurs with their intensity and aging potential. Renowned importers, discerning wine merchants, and specialist critics alike laud the estate's consistency and unwavering commitment to excellence. Both in France and internationally, its wines embody artisanal excellence and authentic Ardèche character.
