Appellations and terroirs

Located at the junction of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine cultivates approximately 20 hectares of vines on remarkable terroirs spread across Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pommard, Beaune, and Volnay. The geological diversity of the soils, primarily clay-limestone, and the varied exposure of the plots offer a full range of appellations: from regional Bourgogne to Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines. The Pernand-Vergelesses vineyard, in particular, is distinguished by its rare ability to produce both structured reds and elegant whites. Each appellation expresses with finesse the unique character of its climate, contributing to a range of wines that is both diverse and cohesive. This geographical richness makes the estate a true embodiment of Burgundy's identity.

Philosophy and History

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine was founded in 1879 by Pierre Arbinet. Since then, five generations of winemakers have succeeded one another, each bringing their own innovations while preserving the estate's roots. In 1977, the family acquired the Rameau-Lamarosse winery, expanding its holdings, notably in Pernand-Vergelesses. In 1985, a new three-level winery was built, reflecting the family's commitment to quality. Today, Christine Gruère-Dubreuil manages the estate. Dedicated, rigorous, and passionate, she represents the fifth generation. A recipient of the Order of Agricultural Merit, she is also deeply involved in promoting women winemakers through her involvement with the "Women and Wines of Burgundy" association. In 2019, her daughter Clémentine joined the family business, ensuring continuity. This generational thread gives each wine from the estate a remarkable depth of soul and sincerity.

Production specifics

The vineyard work is based on sustainable viticulture, where biodiversity and natural balance are preserved. The soils are worked mechanically to aerate the earth and encourage microbial life, without the systematic use of chemical herbicides. The harvest is done by hand, with an initial sorting of the grapes in the vineyard. Upon arrival at the winery, a second sorting is carried out to retain only the healthiest berries. The white grapes are gently pressed whole. After light settling, the musts ferment either in tanks (for regional appellations) or in oak barrels (for village and higher appellations). The red wines made from Pinot Noir undergo cold maceration, then ferment in open tanks with gentle punch-downs to preserve tannic finesse. Aging, which lasts between 12 and 18 months, takes place in French oak barrels, of which 15 to 35% are new, depending on the appellation. Each vintage benefits from individualized care, blending technical skill and intuition, tradition and modernity.

Recognitions

The wines of Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine are regularly praised by wine critics and specialist guides. They can be found in the pages of Bettane+Desseauve, La Revue du Vin de France, and the Hachette Wine Guide. The "Rameau-Lamarosse" cuvée, from the Premier Cru "Les Vergelesses" in Pernand-Vergelesses, is auctioned annually at the prestigious Hospices de Beaune, a symbol of recognition and prestige. Professionals appreciate its balance, precision, and aging potential. In France and abroad, the estate's wines are acclaimed for their sincerity and elegance, reflecting the dedicated and personal approach that shapes them.

Between respect for tradition, environmental commitment, and a family vision, Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine has established itself as one of the most representative estates of the Côte de Beaune. It embodies the very essence of Burgundy wine: an art of living, an attachment to the land, and a constant quest for balance and authenticity.
