Bulliat Estate

Domaine Bulliat, passed down from father to son since 1780, embodies the authenticity of Beaujolais crus. Noël and Loïc Bulliat cultivate 28 hectares spread across eight appellations, including five emblematic crus, using certified organic farming methods. The wines are made from hand-harvested Gamay grapes grown in poor, granitic soils that promote finesse and fruit expression. Traditional winemaking techniques, aging in vats, barrels, or amphorae: each cuvée reflects the exacting standards and elegance of a family estate deeply rooted in its terroir.

Domaine Bulliat – Characterful, organic Gamay, in the heart of Beaujolais

Appellations and terroirs

Domaine Bulliat is located in the heart of Beaujolais, on predominantly granite slopes, typical of the region's Grand Cru vineyards. The vineyard covers approximately 28 hectares and encompasses eight appellations, including five prestigious crus: Morgon, Fleurie, Chénas, Chiroubles, and Moulin-à-Vent. The acidic, poor, and well-drained soils allow for a refined and structured expression of the Gamay grape. These well-exposed granite terroirs provide the grapes with optimal ripeness and concentrate the fruit's elegance.

Philosophy and History

Founded in 1780, Domaine Bulliat is now run by Noël Bulliat and his son Loïc, representing the sixth and seventh generations of winemakers. This family legacy, rooted in tradition, has been enriched by a strong commitment to the environment. In 2010, the Bulliat family began converting to organic farming, culminating in official certification in 2013. Their goal: to produce authentic wines that accurately reflect their terroir with freshness and finesse.

Production specifics

The estate practices rigorous organic viticulture: no herbicides, mechanical or horse-drawn soil cultivation, and grass left between the rows on three-quarters of the plots to preserve the soil and limit yields. Disease control is carried out using only natural products. All grapes are harvested by hand. In the cellar, winemaking respects traditional Beaujolais methods: semi-carbonic maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Some cuvées are aged in oak barrels, others in amphorae, for maximum fruit purity.

Recognitions

The wines of Domaine Bulliat are consistently praised by critics. The Morgon, dense and structured, reveals aromas of black fruit and sweet spices, while the Beaujolais-Villages "Bibine," lighter and fruitier, charms with its suppleness and lusciousness. The white Chardonnay "Sur le Granit" brilliantly expresses minerality, freshness, and saline tension. These wines are featured in specialist guides and have won over a loyal clientele, both in France and internationally.

The father-son partnership embodies the new generation of Beaujolais: rooted in tradition, demanding in its practices, and forward-looking through a genuine environmental approach. Domaine Bulliat distinguishes itself through its respect for the terroir and its ability to produce authentic, unadulterated wines.
