Appellations and terroirs

Located in Chevannes, in the heart of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Domaine David Duband now encompasses 23 prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits. These include Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, as well as several exceptional Grands Crus: Échezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Chambertin, and Latricières-Chambertin. The terroirs are rich in brown limestone, marl, and stony scree, giving the wines great finesse, minerality, and a faithful expression of the Burgundian climate.

Emblematic grape varieties

Reds: Pinot Noir
White wines: Chardonnay (in limited quantities)

Philosophy and History

Founded in 1965 by Pierre Duband, the estate initially sold its production to the Beaune cooperative winery. In 1991, his son David took over 1.5 hectares and vinified his first wines from Nuits-Saint-Georges and Premier Cru vineyards such as "Les Procès" and "Aux Thorey." He quickly expanded the vineyard to include prestigious appellations, while imprinting his style: respect for the environment, authenticity of the terroir, and the finesse of Pinot Noir. From 1998 onwards, he gained access to his first Grand Cru vineyards with Échezeaux, followed by Clos de la Roche, Clos Sorbè, Charmes-Chambertin, and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers. In 2006, he acquired 7 hectares of the Truchot estate. Simultaneously, he purchased grapes on the vine from trusted growers who practiced environmentally responsible viticulture. His mentor Robert Jayer, his experiences at Arlaud and Pierre Amiot, as well as his admiration for the Dujac and Armand Rousseau estates, have nourished his vision: to make wines that are racy, sincere, lively and profoundly Burgundian.

Production specifics

Domaine Duband cultivates 17 hectares certified organic (Ecocert label) since 2006. No herbicides have been used since 1998; the soil is worked by hand, with plowing and controlled cover cropping. Pruning is carefully managed to promote low yields and concentration. The harvest is exclusively by hand, and the grapes are meticulously sorted. Since 2008, David Duband has favored whole-cluster fermentation (between 60 and 80% depending on the cuvée). This method, combined with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction, brings elegance, structure, and aromatic refinement. Aging lasts 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, with an average of 30% new oak. No filtration or fining is carried out, in order to preserve the wine's authenticity.

Style and sensory experience

The wines of Domaine David Duband captivate with their balance of aromatic intensity, fruit purity, and structural finesse. The reds express floral (old rose, peony), spicy (white pepper, cinnamon), and fruity (cherry, raspberry) aromas, carried by a focused, energetic, and fresh palate. Whole-cluster fermentation imparts a noble bitterness, silky tannins, and remarkable persistence. Each vineyard site, from Gevrey to Vosne, is respected in its typicity, with a sensitive and elegant interpretation. The wines are best enjoyed young for their freshness, but reveal their full complexity after several years of cellaring.

Recognitions

David Duband's wines are featured on the wine lists of 16 of France's 25 three-Michelin-starred restaurants, including Le George V, Le Doyen, Le Bristol, Le Flocon de Sel, and Louis XV in Monaco. The specialized press regularly praises his work: "A great wine that transcends the expression of Pinot Noir in its finest and most refined form" (La RVF, 2013, regarding the Chambolle-Musigny Clos Sorbè). "The 2011 Clos de la Roche: with its captivating aromas of old rose, it prioritizes refinement over power" (La RVF, 2012). These accolades attest to his rare expertise and his discerning vision of wine.

Domaine Duband has established itself as a leading producer in the Côte de Nuits. At the crossroads of tradition and innovation, David Duband restores the full nobility of Burgundy's vineyards, crafting vibrant, authentic, and profound wines. The Duband Wine Club, founded in 2014, allows enthusiasts to discover new vintages before their release, reserve rare cuvées, and enjoy exceptional tastings at the estate.
