Brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis, who returned to the region in the 1990s, continue a family legacy dating back to the 16th century. Dominique gained international experience, while Laurent honed his skills locally. Together, they combine respect for centuries-old traditions with an openness to the diversification of terroirs and appellations. The estate has expanded over time, now including Saint-Péray, Crozes-Hermitage, and several IGP appellations in the region. They are deeply committed to viticulture that respects the terroir, prioritizing quality, authenticity, and finesse in their wines.
The winery, built about twenty years ago and adapted to the hillside's topography, uses gravity flow to preserve the quality of the grapes. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, while aging occurs in new barrels that can hold up to four vintages. The Courbis brothers favor gentle winemaking, avoiding excessive extraction, to highlight the freshness and natural fruit expression of Syrah and other grape varieties. The range comprises 14 cuvées, including varietal wines, estate wines, and exceptional single-vineyard wines.
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, respecting the environment and biodiversity, with particular attention paid to manual labor and soil protection. Recent plantings of Marsanne at higher altitudes illustrate their commitment to adapting to climate challenges. This approach is also evident in the choice of containers and cultivation practices to guarantee the long-term health of the vineyard and the quality of the wines.
Domaine Courbis is renowned for its remarkable wines that perfectly reflect the typicity of the Northern Rhône terroirs. The single-vineyard wines of Cornas and Saint-Joseph have received numerous accolades in specialist guides and from critics, who praise their finesse, structure, and elegance.
Domaine Courbis has established itself as an essential reference for lovers of authentic Rhône wines, combining power and delicacy.
