Appellations and terroirs

Domaine Marcel Couturier spans 11 hectares between the villages of Loché and Fuissé, in the heart of the southern Mâconnais region. It encompasses the region's main appellations, including the prestigious Pouilly-Loché, the smallest village appellation in Burgundy (32 hectares). The terroir, composed of clay-limestone slopes and shallow marl, reveals a delicate minerality and remarkable freshness, with southwest-facing plots promoting the natural ripening of the grapes.

Philosophy and History

Founded by Marcel Couturier, the estate produced its first harvest in 2005. A simple and humble man, Marcel is dedicated to producing fresh, expressive, and concentrated wines. Gradually expanded, the estate now covers 11 hectares under his name. In 2018, his son Auxence joined the business, initiating a gradual conversion to organic farming, which began that same year and was certified in 2021. Biodynamic practices were implemented in 2019, and the estate was certified biodynamic in 2022. This approach is rooted in respect for life, biodiversity, and gentle viticulture.

Production specifics

Domaine Marcel Couturier cultivates its vines according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, without seeking early certifications. Each plot is worked using natural practices: homemade biodynamic compost (preparations 502 to 507), and spraying with preparations 500P and 501 according to the vegetative cycles. Treatments are exclusively natural (plant-based liquid manures, decoctions, sulfur, and copper in small doses).

The harvest is entirely manual, minimizing mechanical stress on the grapes. This meticulous selection ensures the integrity of the fruit, particularly in the old vines. In the winery, vinification is carried out simply and respectfully: gentle pressing, natural fermentation possible with little or no added sulfur, and a preference for indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in stainless steel tanks or lightly toasted oak barrels for approximately 6 to 12 months, depending on the vintage.

The iconic vintages

Pouilly-Loché : an expressive, mineral, crystalline and taut signature cuvée.
Mâcon-Loché : fresh, fruity and balanced, a direct reflection of the accessible terroir.
Fuissé : more structured, concentrated, with aging potential.
