Domaine Vincent Paris
Northern Rhône Valley
Domaine Vincent Paris is located in Cornas, in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley, on steep, granitic slopes. It covers 10 hectares divided between the Cornas (6.3 ha), Saint-Joseph (1.7 ha), and Crozes-Hermitage (0.4 ha) appellations, as well as Vin de Pays parcels (1.6 ha). The Cornas vineyards, including the renowned slopes of La Geynale acquired in 2007 through an agricultural land group, benefit from south-facing, mid-slope exposures on granitic soils that impart minerality, tension, and structure to the wines. The steepest slopes are carefully cultivated, sometimes by hand or by minimizing the use of chemical herbicides.
Syrah (exclusively)
After graduating with a degree in viticulture and oenology following four years of study, Vincent Paris founded his estate in 1997 with one hectare of vines in Cornas, inherited from his uncle, the iconic winemaker Robert Michel. He quickly planted new vines and developed his business with determination. In 2007, the acquisition of La Geynale, one of the finest parcels in Cornas, marked a turning point in the estate's history. Today, with his 10 hectares, Vincent Paris has established himself as one of the most promising talents in the Northern Rhône Valley, renowned for the consistency and precision of his wines. He follows in the footsteps of a lineage of artisan winemakers, faithful to their terroir, combining personal commitment with respect for local traditions.
The vineyard work is based on sustainable viticulture, without insecticides or chemical fertilizers, with treatments reduced to the bare minimum (1 to 3 per year). The steepest plots cannot be treated mechanically: Vincent Paris therefore resorts to manual mowing when necessary. Pruning is severe, leaf removal is done by hand, and green harvesting is practiced to control yields. These rigorous practices aim for a single objective: to produce the highest quality grapes possible, at optimal ripeness.
The winemaking process is designed to reveal the terroir rather than to mold the wine. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed to varying degrees depending on their origin. A week-long cold maceration precedes the start of fermentation, which occurs naturally. For three weeks, the vats are stirred twice daily, with temperature control to promote the delicate extraction of tannins and aromas. After three months in vats, the wines are aged for one year in old barrels (2 to 8 years old), without new oak, so as not to mask the terroir's signature. Bottling is carried out with light fining, without filtration, to preserve the wine's natural density.
Domaine Vincent Paris has established itself in just a few years as a rising star in Cornas. Its wines are praised for their authenticity, elegant structure, and ability to reflect the nuances of the granitic terroir. The "Cornas Granit 30" and "Cornas Granit 60," produced from grapes grown at different altitudes and at different stages of ripeness, offer two complementary interpretations of the Syrah grape. As for "La Geynale," it is considered one of the purest and most refined expressions of the appellation.
His wines appeal to both discerning wine lovers and specialist critics. Regularly praised in guides such as La Revue du Vin de France, Wine Advocate, and Decanter, Vincent Paris's wines embody the quintessence of Rhône Syrah, in a style that is at once powerful, taut, and easy to drink.
