Burgundy – Côte de Beaune
Domaine Gérard Thomas spans 12 hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, primarily in the commune of Saint-Aubin. The estate also owns parcels in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Chassagne-Montrachet, four legendary villages of the Côte de Beaune. The terroirs, composed of well-drained clay-limestone soils, are ideal for cultivating Chardonnay, the region's flagship grape. Among the most renowned vineyard sites cultivated by the estate are Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, En Remilly, and Les Frionnes. These cool, often high-altitude terroirs produce wines of great mineral tension.
Chardonnay – Pinot Noir (in very small proportions)
Domaine Gérard Thomas is a family estate founded by Hippolyte Thomas, later developed by his son, and now managed by Gérard Thomas, along with his two daughters, Anne-Sophie and Isabelle, the fourth generation of winemakers. This family legacy has been passed down with respect for tradition and a spirit of constant evolution. Located in Saint-Aubin, a village that was once discreet but is now highly sought after, the estate has always focused on meticulous vineyard work and precise winemaking, to showcase the terroir while respecting the vintage.
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, mindful of the environment. The soils are worked mechanically, without chemical herbicides, and treatments are limited to the bare minimum. The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are carefully sorted. Vinification is carried out plot by plot. The white wines are gently pressed, then fermented and aged in oak barrels (with a measured proportion of new oak), on fine lees for 10 to 12 months, with light stirring depending on the vintage. The desired style is precision, aromatic purity, and balance, without excessive embellishment.
Domaine Gérard Thomas enjoys considerable acclaim among connoisseurs and the specialized press. The wines from the Premier Cru vineyards of Saint-Aubin are regularly praised for their freshness, minerality, and exceptional value. Lovers of great white Burgundy particularly appreciate the wines' finesse, balance, and ability to age gracefully while remaining approachable in their youth. Fine dining restaurants in France and internationally now feature the estate's wines on their wine lists.
Between family tradition, technical rigor, and high-altitude terroirs, Domaine Gérard Thomas has established itself as a leading name in the Côte de Beaune. It embodies a sincere and authentic Burgundy, driven by dedicated men and women.
