Southern Rhône Valley
Domaine de la Mordorée spans 42 hectares of vineyards spread across eight emblematic villages in the Southern Rhône Valley, including prestigious appellations such as Tavel, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Côtes-du-Rhône, Condrieu, and Vin de France. The diversity of the terroirs is a fundamental pillar of the quality of the wines produced: soils of rolled pebbles in Tavel and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, granitic sands in Condrieu, granite terraces, limestone slabs, and sandy-clay soils. This unique geological mosaic offers a rich aromatic and structural palette, allowing each grape variety to fully express itself, thus revealing the singularity of each plot and cuvée.
Production relies primarily on the traditional grape varieties of the Southern Rhône: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre for red and rosé wines, and Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne for white wines. Each grape variety is cultivated with meticulous care, respecting its terroir of origin, and is subject to specific cultivation practices to maximize its aromatic potential and typicity.
Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, Domaine de la Mordorée is the expression of a family passion and a deep respect for the land. Christophe Delorme, a perfectionist and visionary, placed the pursuit of quality at the heart of the estate's approach, choosing to work organically from 2010, with official certification obtained in 2013. Since 2020, the entire vineyard has been certified biodynamic by Demeter, an approach that emphasizes the harmony between the vine, the soil, and the surrounding biodiversity. In addition, the estate has held the High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3 certification since 2019, further proof of its commitment to sustainability. Today, Madeleine Delorme and their daughter Ambre are at the helm, continuing this legacy with a team working alongside them to preserve and enhance this exceptional heritage.
Domaine de la Mordorée combines tradition and modern rigor for exemplary production. The vines are pruned using the goblet method for older vines, ensuring natural resistance to climatic conditions, while the Royat cordon system is used for younger vines, promoting optimal grape exposure. Soil management is carried out in a way that preserves biological life: natural ground cover, complete elimination of chemical herbicides, and the addition of organic matter to maintain soil fertility and structure. This approach encourages the presence of beneficial fauna essential to the health of the vineyard.
Green harvesting, such as bud thinning, green harvesting, topping, and manual leaf removal, is carried out with great precision to optimize the ripening and health of the grapes, while controlling yields between 25 and 45 hl/ha depending on the appellation. The harvest is 100% manual, with rigorous sorting performed both in the vineyard and on the hopper, ensuring impeccable grape selection for each cuvée.
In the cellar, winemaking emphasizes respect for the fruit and the expression of the terroir. Fermentation occurs naturally, using indigenous yeasts, and maceration is carefully controlled to avoid over-extraction. Aging takes place primarily in new oak barrels or demi-muids, as well as in amphorae in certain vintages, to ensure gentle oxygenation and maximum aromatic complexity. The estate favors rich, concentrated, and structured wines with smooth tannins and remarkable density, which reveal themselves both in their youth and with age.
The wines of Domaine de la Mordorée are unanimously recognized for their elegance, power, and authenticity. They regularly feature among the top wines in international guides and receive rave reviews in the specialized press. The exceptional quality of their cuvées, such as La Reine des Bois, La Dame Rousse, and La Dame Voyageuse, is consistently acclaimed, solidifying the estate's reputation as a cornerstone of the Southern Rhône Valley.
This success is the result of unwavering commitment, know-how passed down from generation to generation, and an ability to reconcile respect for the land, technical innovations and exemplary biodynamic practices.
