Unit price perThe Hermitage appellation, located on the left bank of the Rhône in the northern part of the valley, is one of the most prestigious in France. This historic vineyard, perched on a granite hill overlooking Tain-l'Hermitage, is the birthplace of powerful and complex red wines made from Syrah , as well as remarkable white wines produced from Marsanne and Roussanne . Its very name evokes nobility, aging potential, intensity, and emotion. It is a true monument of French wine heritage, sought after by connoisseurs worldwide.
Granted AOC status in 1937, Hermitage covers approximately thirty hectares of steep slopes. The soil is primarily granite, with inclusions of clay and rolled pebbles, giving the wines a remarkable minerality . The continental climate, with its hot summers and cold winters, promotes the concentration of aromas and a slow, even ripening of the grapes. The vines face due south, benefiting from optimal sunshine. Each plot—Méal, Bessards, Greffieux, and others—possesses a unique identity, which the winemakers express through single-vineyard cuvées or meticulously crafted blends.
Hermitage red wines are made exclusively from Syrah . Their dark color, almost black in their youth, hints at their power. The nose reveals aromas of ripe black fruit, spices, leather, truffle, and sometimes violet or black olive. On the palate, the structure is impressive: the tannins are firm yet elegant, the acidity well-integrated, and the finish seemingly endless. These are wines with exceptional aging potential, capable of evolving for decades, gaining in complexity and smoothness with time.
The white wines, often less well-known, are nonetheless among the greatest white wines of France. Made from Marsanne and Roussanne grapes, they offer a full, smooth texture with aromas of white-fleshed fruit, honey, hawthorn, dried fruit, and sometimes a touch of minerality. They age beautifully, developing notes of hazelnut, beeswax, and white truffle. These are gastronomic whites, made for the table.
Red wines beautifully complement roasted red meats, game, herb-crusted lamb, or a Provençal stew. They also pair well with mature cheeses such as aged Comté or blue cheese. White wines are a perfect match for fine fish, poultry in cream sauce, blue cheeses, or dishes featuring truffles.
Les Vins de Carole offers a carefully curated selection of Hermitage wines, crafted by exceptional winemakers, emblematic of Rhône Valley tradition and excellence. Each bottle is chosen for its ability to faithfully represent this unique terroir, whether red or white. Discover or rediscover the intensity of an Hermitage, a wine that combines power, finesse, and nobility like few other appellations in the world.
