Domaine Stéphane Ogier spans several prestigious appellations of the Northern Rhône, including Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph and Condrieu. Of the estate's 45 hectares, 36 hectares are planted with Syrah for the red wines (mainly in Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph), and 9 hectares with white grape varieties: Viognier, mainly in Condrieu, and Marsanne and Roussanne in Saint-Joseph. The estate enjoys magnificent schist and granite terroirs, which give the wines great finesse and fine complexity. The 3.5 hectares of vines in Côte-Rôtie, which are highly sought after, are tended with particular care, producing wines of great quality.

Philosophy and history

The Ogier family has been settled on the land of Côte-Rôtie for more than six generations. Originally, the estate was devoted to mixed farming, mainly vines and apricot trees, with the grapes sold mostly to négociants. It was Michel Ogier who, in 1983, marketed the estate's first wines, just as the Côte-Rôtie appellation was enjoying a real boom. He soon stopped selling to négociants and began making his own cuvées. His son, Stéphane Ogier, joined the estate in 1997, after studying oenology in Beaune. Together, they transformed the estate, expanding the vineyard to today's 45 hectares and refining their approach to winemaking. Stéphane Ogier favours plot-by-plot winemaking and a constant pursuit of finesse and elegance in his cuvées.

Production specifics

The harvest is entirely manual, allowing the best grapes to be selected. The estate favours vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with a variable proportion of whole bunches, depending on the cuvée. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new barrels to preserve the purity of the aromas. The wines are produced plot by plot, as very precise cuvées such as La Belle Hélène (Côte-Rôtie) and Les Vieilles Vignes de Jacques Vernay (Condrieu), which perfectly illustrate the estate's mastery of white grape varieties.

Domaine Stéphane Ogier is regularly praised by international critics. Cuvées such as La Belle Hélène have received outstanding scores, such as 97/100 from Wine Spectator. The estate also features in prestigious guides, with particular recognition for the finesse, structure and ageing potential of its wines.
