Champagne Laurent-Perrier

Founded in 1812 in Tours-sur-Marne, Laurent-Perrier is one of the last great Champagne houses still family-owned and independent. Under the impetus of Bernard de Nonancourt, it developed a style defined by freshness, elegance and purity, built mainly on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Laurent-Perrier: family independence in the service of a style, since 1812

Estate name

Champagne Laurent-Perrier is a family-owned, independent house, one of the few of its size still outside the major luxury groups.

Wine region

AOC Champagne. The house is based in Tours-sur-Marne, a Grand Cru village where the Vallée de la Marne meets the Montagne de Reims, and sources its grapes from a large share of the appellation's 319 villages, including the 17 Grands Crus and 42 Premiers Crus.

Appellations and terroirs

The house's vineyards are anchored in the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims (Bouzy, Ambonnay, Tours-sur-Marne) for Pinot Noir, and in the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger) for Chardonnay. Vinifying plot by plot, lot by lot, gives the cellar master a broad palette of terroirs to draw on for blending.

Signature grape varieties

  • Chardonnay and Pinot Noir: the two varieties that make up almost all of the Laurent-Perrier blend
  • Pinot Meunier: used as a complement in some cuvées, notably La Cuvée (10-15%)

Philosophy and history

Founded in 1812 in Tours-sur-Marne by André-Michel Pierlot, the house took the name Veuve Laurent-Perrier in 1887 under the leadership of Mathilde-Emilie Perrier. Marie-Louise de Nonancourt acquired the estate in 1939; her son Bernard de Nonancourt became its chairman in 1948 and, over forty years, shaped the house style: freshness, elegance, purity. Since 1999, his daughters Alexandra Pereyre and Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt have run the group as members of the Management Board, now chaired by Stéphane Dalyac.

Production methods

By the late 1970s, Laurent-Perrier was one of the first Champagne houses to install stainless steel tanks and build a temperature-controlled vat room, to preserve the wine's freshness from the first fermentation onwards. Each plot is vinified separately before blending. From 1960, the house developed a skill rarely found in Champagne, the maceration of Pinot Noir (48 to 72 hours in tank, with pumping over twice a day), which gave rise to its Cuvée Rosé, launched in 1968: a method distinct from the blended rosé more common in the region. Its prestige cuvée Grand Siècle, created in 1959, blends up to three complementary vintages and eleven Grands Crus, with a minimum of ten years' ageing on the lees.

Environmental commitment

In February 2018, the Laurent-Perrier group obtained Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) certification and Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification for all the plots it farms itself. The house says it manages its waste through recycling and seeks to reduce its consumption of water, electricity and gas at its production site.

Recognition

  • Bettane+Desseauve, Guide des meilleurs vins 2026: 5 stars for Maison Laurent-Perrier, and a score of 100/100 for Grand Siècle Iteration N°26
  • James Suckling: a score of 100/100 and "Wine of the Year" for Grand Siècle Iteration N°26 (2023)

Why choose a Laurent-Perrier wine?

  • An independent family house since 1812, run by the same family since 1939
  • A skill unique in Champagne: the maceration of Pinot Noir for its rosé Champagnes
  • Grand Siècle, a prestige cuvée that blends several vintages rather than a single year
  • VDC and HVE certified viticulture since 2018 across all its own plots
  • International acclaim, up to the maximum score of 100/100
