Ventoux
Part of the Ventoux AOP, the estate extends between 310 and 550 meters in altitude, between Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. The vineyard is planted on a mosaic of limestone soils, clay-limestone scree, Triassic, rendzina and ancient alluvial deposits, offering exceptional diversity and natural freshness, a real asset in the face of climate change.
Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault for the reds and rosés; Clairette, Roussanne and Chardonnay for the whites.
Heir to the very first papal vineyard planted in 1309 by Clement V in Malaucène, Via Caritatis is the fruit of a unique union between the Benedictine monks of Le Barroux, the nuns of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation, and winegrowers from Mont Ventoux. Since 2003, this bold collaboration has continued a thousand-year-old heritage, combining spirituality, exacting winemaking standards, and a profound respect for the terroir.
The vines are cultivated on terraces called "bancaous," at very high density (up to 7,500 vines per hectare), according to some of the most demanding specifications in Provence. Careful pruning, hand-harvesting, bud thinning, leaf removal, green harvesting, and rigorous vinification allow for the production of highly concentrated wines. The entire vineyard is worked by hand, with meticulous attention paid to each vine.
Via Caritatis wines captivate enthusiasts and critics alike with their elegance and intensity. The 2022 "Lux in Excelsior" vintage received 93/100 from Jeb Dunnuck, as did the 2023 "Vox Angelorum" (92/100) and "Pax in Terra" (92/100). The Hachette Wine Guide awarded one star to the 2023 Vox rosé, and Decanter gave several wines, including the 2021 Lux Blanc and the 2023 Vox Blanc, a score of 91/100. These accolades confirm the authenticity and quality of the wines produced from this exceptional vineyard nestled at the foot of Mont Ventoux.
Via Caritatis embodies a rare vision of wine: that of a living heritage, nurtured by monastic rigor and peasant passion. Between spirituality, a quest for truth, and artisanal precision, its wines accurately express the freshness of their terroirs, the soul of Ventoux, and the call of a more excellent path.
