Appellations and terroirs
Domaine du Guéret covers 13 hectares, divided between the Beaujolais appellation (3.4 ha in Saint-Germain-sur-l'Arbresle) and, primarily, Moulin-à-Vent (approximately 10 ha), notably in the lieu-dit La Bruyère. This vineyard in northern Beaujolais rests on soils resulting from the slow weathering of pink granite. The sandy, very poor, and almost clay-free weathered soil forces the vines to draw water from deep within the soil, naturally limiting yields. The soil is rich in manganese and iron oxides: the former accentuates the tannic structure and color intensity, while the latter contributes mineral tension and a subtle spicy note. This geological austerity gives rise to powerful wines, built for aging, while retaining finesse and floral expression.

Philosophy and History
Passed down through generations, Domaine du Guéret belongs to the Favre family. Jean Favre was president of the Chénas wine cooperative, and his four daughters continue the family tradition today. Catherine Delaunay-Favre, a renowned oenologist, has overseen winemaking since 2005 and also manages the vineyards. The estate is based on a plot-by-plot approach, respectful of the environment, blending Beaujolais tradition with modern winemaking techniques, with a constant focus on precision and authenticity in expressing the terroir.
Production specifics
The sloping vineyards are cultivated without mechanization, using sustainable viticulture practices. The harvest is done by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. Vinification is carried out with whole bunches, according to local tradition, with long macerations. Aging is tailored to each cuvée, partly in oak barrels, in old 18th-century cellars. This meticulous care allows for the production of profound, precise wines with fine tannins and remarkable length.
Recognitions
The estate's wines are regularly featured in the Hachette Wine Guide. They impress with their aromatic intensity (black fruit, violet, licorice), their density, and their balance. The style combines the nobility of the granite soil with a contemporary and elegant interpretation of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation.
A discreet but essential ambassador of northern Beaujolais, Domaine du Guéret embodies the granitic elegance of its terroir and appeals to demanding enthusiasts in search of authenticity and depth.
