Côte de Beaune, Burgundy
Domaine Ramonet spans approximately 17 hectares in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, encompassing such illustrious appellations as Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Bouzeron, and Pernand-Vergelesses. Its exceptional heritage includes some of the world's most prestigious crus, notably Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet—true jewels of the Burgundy vineyards. In addition, it boasts a remarkable collection of Premier Cru vineyards such as Les Caillerets, Les Morgeot, Les Vergers, and Les Chaumées. These vines grow in predominantly limestone soils with excellent drainage, imparting to the wines a unique finesse and mineral tension, characteristic of great white Burgundy.
Chardonnay (predominant, approximately 70%) – Pinot Noir (approximately 30%)
Domaine Ramonet was founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, a self-taught and visionary man who arrived in Burgundy penniless but driven by an unwavering passion for winemaking. Thanks to his tenacity and keen winemaking skills, he quickly established his wines as some of the most sought-after in the region. A pivotal meeting with the American importer Frank Schoonmaker allowed his wines to gain international recognition in the United States as soon as Prohibition ended. The estate then entered a period of international acclaim.
Family tradition plays a fundamental role in the estate's identity. Today, Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet, grandsons of the founder, manage the estate. Jean-Claude, a meticulous oenologist, embodies the continuity of a painstaking expertise where every detail counts. Two entities coexist: Domaine Ramonet (owned by the estate) and a négociant business operating under the Jean-Claude Ramonet label. Together, they pursue a constant quest for quality and authenticity.
The vineyard is managed according to demanding principles: sustainable viticulture, meticulous soil work without herbicides, partial cover cropping, and yield control. The harvest is exclusively manual, with rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and at the winery. Winemaking respects Burgundian traditions while incorporating the best contemporary practices. The white wines benefit from extended aging of 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak, to preserve the expression of the terroir. The red wines, vinified with partial destemming, are aged with the same care and precision.
The estate is committed to producing straightforward, unadorned wines with a remarkable balance of substance, tension, and aroma. Each cuvée is a true reflection of its terroir of origin, whether it comes from a grand cru or a more discreet plot.
Domaine Ramonet is among Burgundy's most prestigious estates. Its wines are lauded in leading guides such as Bettane & Desseauve, La Revue du Vin de France, Wine Advocate, and Burghound. The great white wines, particularly the legendary Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, reach the pinnacle of complexity and renown. The Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Caillerets is also considered a benchmark. Wine lovers worldwide seek out these bottles, which have become rare and precious icons.
The Ramonet style is distinguished by its exceptional purity of expression, crystalline minerality, and remarkable longevity. This decidedly high-end positioning, combined with limited production, makes it an essential addition to any discerning wine lover's cellar.
