Located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, the Ventoux appellation (formerly Côtes du Ventoux) benefits from exceptional terroir and a unique climate, producing a wide variety of red , rosé , and white wines. Recognized as an AOC since 1973, this southern Rhône appellation is appealing for its accessibility, its deliciousness, and the natural freshness imparted by its altitude.
The Ventoux vineyards cover more than 6,000 hectares spread across 51 communes in the Vaucluse department. They are dominated by the famous Mont Ventoux, whose altitude (1,912 meters) strongly influences the wine-growing climate. The altitude of the vines (up to 500 meters), combined with the varied soils (clay-limestone, silt, sand, pebbles), allows for the production of balanced, expressive, and well-structured wines.
The red wines (the majority) are made from Grenache , Syrah , Mourvèdre , or Carignan grapes . They are characterized by aromas of red and black fruits, sweet spices, and garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland), with a supple and generous palate. The rosés are fresh, fruity, and pleasant, perfect for summer. The whites , made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, or Vermentino grapes, offer floral and citrus aromas and a lovely vivacity.
Ventoux reds are perfect with regional cuisine: grilled meats, stews, tagines, or aged cheeses. Lighter wines pair well with poultry, quiches, or roasted vegetables. Rosé wines are ideal as an aperitif, with salads, tapas, or Provençal dishes. White wines complement fish, shellfish, white meats, or fresh cheeses.
These are wines best enjoyed young, but some of the age-worthy reds develop a beautiful complexity after a few years. The Ventoux style, a blend of southern character and high-altitude freshness, appeals to lovers of authentic and approachable wines.
At Les Vins de Carole, we select wines from the Ventoux appellation for their balance, drinkability, and value. Our partner winemakers work with respect for nature and the terroir. Whether you prefer rich reds, fruity rosés, or expressive whites, let yourself be seduced by our selection of Ventoux wines, ideal for all convivial occasions.
