Volnay: the elegance of Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune

The Volnay appellation, nestled in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune , is a jewel for Pinot Noir lovers. Recognized as early as 1937, it is famous for its remarkably refined red wines , considered among the most elegant in the region. If Volnay evokes silk, it is because its wines harmoniously blend delicacy, freshness, and complexity .

A prestigious terroir with diverse climates

Volnay covers approximately 220 hectares, exclusively dedicated to red wines , with nearly 35% classified as Premier Cru . The vines grow in limestone and clay-limestone soils , at an altitude of 230 to 370 meters, providing optimal drainage and excellent concentration in the grapes. The varied exposures promote a slow and balanced ripening of the Pinot Noir.

Volnay red wines are distinguished by their floral aromas (violet, peony), notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), and sometimes a touch of spice or undergrowth. On the palate, they reveal a velvety texture , a fine structure , and an elegant finish . Few white wines are produced under this appellation (often labeled Meursault or Bourgogne), but a few rare exceptions may exist.

Wines of great finesse at the table

Volnay wines are exceptionally elegant , perfect for pairing with delicate dishes. They go wonderfully with roast poultry , filet mignon , roast veal , grilled vegetables , or mild cheeses like Brillat-Savarin or Reblochon. In their youth, they charm with their fruitiness and freshness; after 5 to 10 years, they develop remarkable complexity, blending sweet spices, leather, and truffle.

Les Vins de Carole: Burgundian finesse in your glass
