Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, the Corton appellation is one of the most prestigious and oldest in the region. This appellation produces exceptional red and white wines, combining power, elegance, and complexity. The Corton terroirs, composed of clay-limestone soils over a limestone subsoil, benefit from an ideal exposure that promotes the perfect ripening of Burgundy's emblematic grape varieties: Pinot Noir for the reds and Chardonnay for the whites.
A historic terroir and a recognized appellation
The Corton vineyards stretch across sunny slopes around the villages of Ladoix-Serrigny, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Aloxe-Corton. It is the only appellation in Burgundy to boast Grand Cru status for both red and white wines, including renowned vineyard sites such as Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, and Charlemagne. This unique terroir, shaped by centuries of winemaking, imparts to the wines remarkable aromatic finesse, balanced structure, and exceptional aging potential.
The red and white wines of Corton
Corton's red wines are powerful and structured, with complex aromas of red and black fruit, spice, undergrowth, and sometimes smoky notes. They evolve towards more tertiary profiles with age, developing finesse and elegance. The white wines, made primarily from Chardonnay, are rich, elegant, and mineral, with notes of white flowers, white-fleshed fruit, honey, and a lovely vibrancy.
Food and wine pairings with Corton
Corton red wines are the perfect accompaniment to red meats, game, dishes with sauces, and aged cheeses. The white wines pair beautifully with fine fish, poultry in sauce, shellfish, and refined dishes. These wines are ideal for gourmet meals and exceptional tastings.
