Exclusively dedicated to Pinot Noir, the appellation produces wines of character, capable of aging gracefully for decades. Recognized as an AOC since 1937, Pommard delights Burgundy enthusiasts seeking wines with aging potential and prestigious vineyard sites.
The Pommard vineyards cover just over 300 hectares, between Beaune and Volnay. They lie on clay-limestone soils rich in iron, which give the wines their tannic structure and deep color. The southeast exposure and the region's temperate climate allow the Pinot Noir to ripen fully while retaining its natural acidity, ensuring balance and longevity.
The commune boasts 28 Premier Cru vineyards, including the renowned Rugiens (Bas and Haut) and Épenots (Petits and Grands), which are among the most prestigious in the entire Côte de Beaune. These terroirs are capable of rivaling some of the region's Grands Crus in terms of finesse, depth, and aging potential.
Pommard wines boast an intense color with deep ruby highlights. The nose is often marked by aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), spices, leather, truffle, or undergrowth, depending on the age. On the palate, these wines display a beautiful density, firm yet elegant tannins, and a long, persistent finish. When young, they impress with their vigor; with time, they gain in complexity and suppleness.
They pair wonderfully with grilled or braised red meats, roast beef, duck breast, game, or aged cheeses like Époisses or Laguiole. These are gastronomic wines par excellence, to be opened for exceptional meals.
At Les Vins de Carole, we have selected Pommard wines from winemakers renowned for their respect for the terroir, the quality of their winemaking, and the precision of their expression. Whether you are looking for a well-structured village wine or a refined Premier Cru, we offer ideal cuvées to cellar or to serve for your special occasions. Discover the full character of the Côte de Beaune in a glass of Pommard.
