This exclusive yet prestigious appellation offers both elegant reds made from Pinot Noir and vibrant whites, predominantly Chardonnay. The Pernand-Vergelesses AOC, established in 1937, appeals to connoisseurs seeking authenticity and excellent value within Burgundy's great terroirs.
The vineyards extend over approximately one hundred hectares spread around the village, on well-exposed slopes. The soils are varied, alternating between marl, limestone, and clay, depending on whether the vineyard faces south, east, or north. This diversity gives rise to a range of expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both in village appellations and Premier Cru. Pernand-Vergelesses also shares the two prestigious Grand Cru vineyards of Corton (red) and Corton-Charlemagne (white) with its neighbors Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny.
The reds of Pernand-Vergelesses display a lovely freshness, aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry), sweet spices, and a fine yet present structure. The whites, on the other hand, are renowned for their minerality, tension, and aromas of white flowers, citrus, and sometimes hazelnut after a few years.
The appellation's red wines pair well with delicate meats such as pork tenderloin, roast poultry, or roasted vegetables and mild cheeses. More mature vintages gain in complexity and can accompany more robust dishes. The crisp and elegant white wines are ideal for seafood, fish in sauce, veal stew, or aged cheeses like Comté.
The Premier Crus of Pernand-Vergelesses, such as “Les Fichots”, “Sous Frétille” or “En Caradeux”, are particularly sought after for their balance and aging potential. As for the Grands Crus, they embody the quintessence of great white and red Burgundy wines.
At Les Vins de Carole, we showcase Pernand-Vergelesses wines chosen for their finesse, terroir, and authenticity. We work with passionate winemakers who value this discreet yet exceptionally rich appellation. Whether it's a distinguished Premier Cru or a charming village wine, our selection is ideal for discovering a more intimate side of the great wines of the Côte de Beaune.
