Burgundy: the pure expression of French wine terroir

Burgundy is a jewel of the French wine region, renowned for its exceptional wines made primarily from two emblematic grape varieties: Pinot Noir for reds and Chardonnay for whites. From north to south, this unique wine-growing region captivates enthusiasts with the diversity of its climates, the precision of its appellations, and the elegance of its wines. Wines from the Bourgogne AOC appellation often serve as an ideal introduction to this region of excellence.

A thousand-year-old vineyard and a hierarchy of appellations

The Burgundy wine region stretches from Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais in the south, encompassing the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise, and the Mâconnais. Its history dates back to the Gallo-Roman era and was profoundly influenced by the Cistercian and Benedictine monks who delineated the best vineyard sites as early as the Middle Ages. The classification of appellations into regional , communal (or village) , Premier Cru , and Grand Cru provides a meticulously structured framework for this wine region.

Bourgogne AOC: a regional appellation with many facets

Wines sold under the Bourgogne appellation can come from anywhere in the Burgundy wine region. They are often approachable wines, showcasing the defining characteristics of Burgundy grape varieties: the finesse and fruitiness of Pinot Noir, and the mineral purity and freshness of Chardonnay. In addition, there are white wines made from Aligoté, Crémant de Bourgogne, and a few rosés. When well-made, these wines already express the refinement characteristic of the region.

Refined wines for a wide range of pairings

A red Burgundy pairs wonderfully with roast poultry, roast veal, game terrine, or mushrooms. A white Burgundy is a perfect accompaniment to grilled fish, white meat in sauce, seafood salad, or goat cheese. Crémants, on the other hand, are perfect as an aperitif or with light dishes.

Our selection of Burgundy

Les Vins de Carole offers a carefully curated selection of Burgundy wines: fruity reds, soft and balanced whites, elegant rosés, and festive Crémants. These wines represent the quality of Burgundy and are perfect for beginning an in-depth exploration of this legendary wine region.
