Wines with an alcohol content above 13% are synonymous with concentration, aromatic richness, and character. Made from sun-drenched grapes, these wines offer a firm structure and remarkable length on the palate. At Les Vins de Carole, we have assembled a selection of powerful wines, from warm terroirs and expressive grape varieties, to satisfy those who appreciate bold flavors and exceptional food pairings.
Wines with an alcohol content above 13% often originate from southern regions: Languedoc-Roussillon, the southern Rhône Valley, Provence, Corsica, or Southwest France. They are also found in certain Bordeaux appellations (particularly in warm vintages), in southern Burgundy, or in the northern Rhône Valley. These regions benefit from abundant sunshine, allowing for optimal grape ripeness, resulting in higher natural alcohol levels and an intense expression of fruit.
Certain grape varieties are particularly well-suited to rich and generous wines: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon in their most concentrated expressions. For white wines, varieties like Viognier, Chardonnay (in warm climates), and Roussanne also produce wines with an opulent profile. When vinified with precision, these grape varieties yield powerful yet balanced wines.
High-alcohol wines pair well with flavorful dishes: grilled red meats, game, stews, Mediterranean or spicy cuisine. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape will enhance a herb-roasted lamb, a Faugères will perfectly complement a Provençal daube, while a red from Roussillon will pair wonderfully with a cassoulet or oriental cuisine. For white wines, a full-bodied Viognier will complement poultry in a cream sauce or a mature cheese.
Thanks to their natural richness, wines with an alcohol content above 13% can age gracefully in the cellar, developing complex aromas of leather, spice, truffle, or dried fruit. But some of these wines, crafted for their indulgent character, can also be enjoyed young, for their vibrant fruitiness. Our advice will help you choose according to your preferences: for immediate enjoyment or for cellaring.
We have carefully selected authentic wines, produced with respect for the vine and the terroir, often using organic or biodynamic farming methods. Each wine in this collection is an invitation to discover powerful yet balanced wines, designed to accompany exceptional moments or the intense pleasures of everyday life.
