Burgundy's regional appellations: the great style at accessible prices

In the Burgundian hierarchy, the regional appellations make up the first tier: Bourgogne AOC, Bourgogne Côte d'Or, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Bourgogne Aligoté. They cover a wider area than the villages or the crus, with slightly higher yields. Yet in the hands of a great estate, they already express all the finesse and precision that have made Burgundy famous around the world. That is precisely what we set out to demonstrate with this collection.

Great estates, entry-level cuvées: the LVC bet

Our approach is simple: we select our regional Burgundies from the very growers who produce the greatest labels of the Côte. A Bourgogne Aligoté from Domaine Ramonet, one of the most legendary estates in Chassagne-Montrachet, shows a precision and minerality that few wines at this price level can match. A white Bourgogne Côte d'Or from Rémi Jobard or Marc Colin already expresses the style of houses that also make benchmark Meursault and Saint-Aubin. A Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits from David Duband or Edouard Delaunay carries the DNA of the Côte de Nuits in an accessible, everyday format.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aligoté: three grapes, three styles

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir wines in this collection are light, fruity reds with a silky palate, ideal with poultry, fine charcuterie or simply served slightly chilled as an aperitif. The Bourgogne Chardonnay and white Côte d'Or wines offer the minerality and freshness typical of the Côte, perfect with fish in sauce, fresh cheeses or roast poultry. Aligoté, Burgundy's historic white grape and all too often underestimated, shows remarkable tension and liveliness in the hands of great estates: it is the traditional ingredient of Kir, but also a food wine in its own right with shellfish and goat's cheeses.

Crémant de Bourgogne as a bonus

Our selection also includes a Crémant de Bourgogne from Louis Picamelot, one of the benchmark houses of the appellation. Made by the traditional method from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it offers a serious alternative to Champagne for festive meals or quality aperitifs, at a third of the price.

When and how to drink them?

The vast majority of these wines are best drunk within 2 to 4 years of the harvest to enjoy their freshness and fruit. A few cuvées from old vines or given careful ageing (Rémi Jobard's Bourgogne Côte d'Or, Edouard Delaunay's Hautes-Côtes) can take 4 to 6 years in the cellar. Serve the whites between 11 and 13 °C and the reds slightly chilled, between 14 and 16 °C.
