Marsanne is the other great white grape of the northern Rhône terroirs, grown between Vienne and Valence on the slopes of Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. Les Jamelles has transplanted it to Languedoc-Roussillon, on the clay-limestone soils of the IGP Pays d'Oc, where this little-known variety gives generous, aromatic wines that are rarely made as single varietals in the South. A real risk that rewards the curious. The colour is golden yellow with slightly amber highlights. The nose offers a generous bouquet of dried apricot, lime blossom and beeswax, with a touch of mandarin. On the palate the texture is broad and enveloping, the acidity moderate, and the finish long on dried fruit and sweet spices. Perfect with sweetbreads in sauce, a fillet of turbot en croûte or hard cooked-pressed cheeses. Serve at 11-12 °C.
