Terrasses du Larzac: the freshness of Languedoc's high-altitude reds

Located northwest of Montpellier, the Terrasses du Larzac appellation is one of the youngest and most dynamic in the Languedoc. Granted AOC status in 2014, it is distinguished by its powerful yet fresh high-altitude red wines , produced from complex terroirs by dedicated winemakers. A must-try appellation for lovers of modern and balanced Mediterranean wines.

A unique terroir at the foot of the Larzac

The Terrasses du Larzac vineyard covers more than 2,000 hectares, spread across some thirty communes, between the Hérault valley and the foothills of the Causse du Larzac. The vines grow between 100 and 400 meters in altitude, on varied soils (limestone, sandstone, schist) and benefit from large temperature variations between day and night, promoting freshness, slow ripening and aromatic complexity .

The wines are made from typical southern blends : Syrah , Grenache , Mourvèdre , Carignan , and Cinsault . Each grape variety contributes its own aromatic profile and structure. The reds offer aromas of black fruit, spices, and garrigue, with a generous palate balanced by a lovely vibrancy and elegant tannins.

Powerful yet easy-to-digest red wines

The Terrasses du Larzac wines shine with their ability to combine Mediterranean warmth with a refreshing quality. They are perfect for fine dining, complementing rib-eye steak, herb-roasted lamb, tagine, stews, or aged cheeses. They also pair beautifully with flavorful vegetarian cuisine.

In their youth, they seduce with their intense fruitiness. After a few years of aging, they gain complexity, revealing notes of leather, black olive, garrigue, or blond tobacco. These are wines of character, yet approachable, with a strong identity and a distinct personality.
