Orange wine is an ancient category enjoying a remarkable comeback: made from white grapes vinified with extended skin maceration (like a red wine), it takes its amber colour and tannic structure from contact with the skins. The recipe dates back to ancient Georgia and was revived in the 2000s by artisan winemakers. Les Jamelles offers an accessible, gourmand version made from a complex blend: Chenin, Gewurztraminer, Grenache Blanc, Muscat and Viognier, as a Vin de France (12.5% ABV). The colour is golden, coppery and luminous orange. The nose is exotic and aromatic: dried apricot, orange blossom, candied ginger and a light oxidative note reminiscent of a stroll through a cellar. On the palate, the texture is unusual, lightly tannic and saline, with a long, dry finish of sweet spices. Pair with fragrant world cuisines (Indian, Lebanese), washed-rind cheeses or dry-cured charcuterie. Serve at 12-14 °C in a large white wine glass.
