M. Chapoutier wines: biodynamics and precision at the heart of the Rhône Valley

Explore our selection of Maison Chapoutier wines to buy: Belleruche Côtes du Rhône, Deschants Saint-Joseph, Pie VI Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Cuvées from a pioneering biodynamic house, available with prices and vintages, and delivery across France.

Chapoutier cuvées available

Belleruche: Côtes du Rhône

The house's most accessible cuvée, available in red (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) and white (Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne). Fruity and generous, with remarkable value for money. As a négociant wine made from bought-in grapes, it falls outside the certified biodynamic farming of the Chapoutier estates. Ideal for everyday meals.

Deschants: Saint-Joseph

The house's benchmark Saint-Joseph cuvée, in red (Syrah) and white (Marsanne). The red develops aromas of black fruit, olive and spice over an elegant tannic structure. The white, ample and floral, is one of the finest white Saint-Josephs in the appellation.

Pie VI: Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah from southern plots farmed biodynamically. A Châteauneuf that is both powerful and refined, with a long capacity for ageing.

Maison Chapoutier: history and philosophy

The origins of the house go back to 1808 in Tain l'Hermitage. Michel Chapoutier took over in 1990 and set in motion a major transformation: the full adoption of biodynamics across all of the vineyards. A committed visionary, he established the house as a world benchmark, combining respect for terroir, precise viticulture and innovation. Its transparency goes so far that the labels always carry the name of the terroir and are translated into Braille.

Exceptional terroirs

Chapoutier excels across an exceptional mosaic: Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu in the Northern Rhône; Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Rasteau in the Southern Rhône. Granite soils, rounded pebbles, marls, schist: each appellation expresses a unique identity.

Production specifics

Full biodynamics: natural treatments, observation of the lunar cycle, ploughing, biodynamic preparations. Hand harvesting, plot-by-plot vinification, slow fermentations with indigenous yeasts. In the cellar, ageing in oak barrels tailored to each cuvée for a precise expression of terroir.

Recognition

Regularly cited by Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Decanter, Bettane+Desseauve and La Revue du Vin de France, Maison Chapoutier earns some of the highest scores in the world for its single-plot cuvées (L'Ermitage Le Pavillon, Le Méal). A benchmark for demanding wine lovers, connoisseurs and collectors.
