Located north of the Côte Chalonnaise, the Rully appellation is one of Burgundy's most appealing for lovers of fine, affordable wines. Recognized as an AOC since 1939, it produces both white and red wines, both boasting a beautiful balance and an authentic expression of the terroir. Rully also benefits from a significant number of Premier Cru vineyards, a guarantee of quality and diversity.
A clay-limestone terroir with multiple expressions
The Rully vineyard covers approximately 350 hectares, a significant portion of which is classified as Premier Cru. The clay-limestone soils, moderate altitude (250–300 m), and east to southeast exposure promote optimal ripening of the grape varieties. Chardonnay expresses itself here with freshness and precision, while Pinot Noir yields fruity, supple, and elegant red wines.
The white wines of Rully, clear and luminous, reveal aromas of citrus, white flowers, hazelnut, and sometimes a subtle buttery touch. On the palate, they combine roundness and vivacity, with a mineral finish. The reds are approachable even in their youth, with notes of cherry, raspberry, sweet spices, and beautifully supple tannins.
Versatile wines for the table
A white Rully is perfect as an aperitif or with seafood, fish in sauce, roast poultry, or a mature cheese such as Comté or Cantal. The reds, on the other hand, pair well with white meats, light Burgundian cuisine, terrines, or mild cheeses. Their finesse also allows them to be served slightly chilled in summer.
Premier Crus such as “La Pucelle”, “Rabourcé” or “Préaux” express a superior complexity, with a beautiful aging potential, while remaining in an accessible price range compared to appellations further north.
