Domaine de Villeneuve – Authentic expression of Pic Saint Loup

Domain name

Domaine de Villeneuve

Wine region

Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc (Occitanie)

Appellations and terroirs

The estate is located in the prestigious Pic Saint Loup AOP, on clay-limestone soils mixed with alluvium and rocky scree, typical of the hills below Pic Saint-Loup and Hortus. The south to southeast exposure and the altitude (~150 m) promote slow ripening, enhanced by a Mediterranean climate with tramontane winds and sea breezes.

Iconic grape varieties

Traditional red blends: Syrah, Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, complemented by Carignan and, occasionally, Grenache blanc or Roussanne for the white wines.

Philosophy and History

A family estate for over seven generations, located in Claret and Valflaunès, Domaine de Villeneuve combines ancestral respect for the terroir with constant renewal. The Fraisse family, the current owners, cultivate their vines using sustainable farming practices, nurturing a vision of accessible excellence. Their ambition: to reveal, in each vintage, the pure expression of Pic Saint Loup.

Production specifics

The older vines (30–50 years old) are goblet-pruned or trellised, depending on the variety. Harvesting is exclusively by hand, followed by traditional winemaking: fermentation in concrete vats, long maceration, then aging for 12 months in new oak barrels or vats, depending on the cuvée (“La Muse”, “Happy Culteur”, “Vieilles Vignes”, “Chant des Roches”). Yields range from 25 hL/ha (exceptional cuvées) to 45 hL/ha. The winery's structure, a blend of tradition with underground vats and modern techniques, ensures optimal aging.

Recognitions

Several vintages are regularly awarded prizes: Gilbert & Gaillard gold medal for “La Muse” 2019, 87/100 rating on Vivino, 91/100 for “Chant des Roches” 2015, and glowing reviews in specialist guides.

Renowned for the finesse of its tannins and aromatic richness, Domaine de Villeneuve stands out as a respected benchmark, combining elegance, structure and the typical deliciousness of Languedoc.
