Cinsault: the elegance and freshness of the southern grape variety

Cinsault is a red grape variety from the South of France, renowned for its lightness, finesse, and beautiful fruity expression. Often blended with Grenache and Mourvèdre in Languedoc or Provence wines, it also produces very attractive single-varietal wines that are fresh and delicious. The "Cinsault" collection from Vins de Carole showcases this exceptional grape variety, ideal for lovers of light and fruity wines.

Aromatic profile and characteristics

In single-varietal bottles, Cinsault offers a pale color, very supple tannins, and delicate aromas of fresh red fruits (strawberry, raspberry), flowers (peony, rose), and sometimes peppery notes . Its low extraction gives it great drinkability and a lovely freshness.

Regions and appellations

Cinsault is particularly prevalent in Provence (Côtes de Provence, Bandol), Languedoc (Coteaux du Languedoc, IGP Pays d'Oc) and in certain terroirs of Morocco and South Africa. It thrives on stony and clay-limestone soils, benefiting from a hot and dry climate.

Food and wine pairings

Its lightness and freshness make it an essential ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine: composed salads, light grilled meats, ratatouille, pizzas, as well as appetizers and tapas. It also pairs very well with mild or slightly spicy exotic dishes.

Tasting tips

Serve Cinsault at 12–14°C to appreciate its vibrancy. It can be enjoyed young, within the year, for its bright fruit. However, a brief decanting (15 minutes) can open up its bouquet and reveal its floral nuances.
