Founded in 1443, the Hospices de Beaune is one of the most iconic wine estates in Burgundy, with nearly 60 hectares sold at auction en primeur every November. Maison Edouard Delaunay has taken part in this event since at least 1916, buying the finest cuvées, which it then ages and bottles with care. Cuvée Loppin combines part of the Premier Cru Les Cras (a steep, stony clay-limestone soil facing south-east, a source of finesse) with the Meursault Village Les Criots, more clay-rich at the foot of the slope, which brings body and richness to the blend.

The colour is a brilliant golden yellow, heralding a generously aged Chardonnay. The nose sits in the gourmand register typical of Hospices cuvées: toffee, vanilla, vanilla sugar waffle and crème caramel, lifted by fresher hints of fresh coriander and vetiver. The palate confirms the richness of the nose with a firm attack, structured by well-integrated oak and supported by a minerality that carries the finish towards length and poise.

This Meursault pairs with scallops in beurre blanc, chicken in a cream sauce or an aged Comté. Serve at 12-13°C; already expressive, it will gain integration and complexity over the next few years.
