Gewurztraminer: an exceptional aromatic grape variety

Gewurztraminer is one of Alsace's most emblematic grape varieties. Renowned for its aromatic intensity and exotic style, it appeals to lovers of expressive and luscious white wines. This noble grape variety produces wines ranging from dry to sweet, offering a unique aromatic profile marked by notes of lychee, rose, spices, and exotic fruits.

An Alsatian origin and an international reputation

Gewurztraminer originates from the vineyards of Central Europe, but it is in Alsace that it has truly earned its reputation. There, nestled between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River, it finds a perfectly suited terroir and benefits from a cool, sunny climate that allows for optimal ripening. It is also found in other regions of the world: Germany, Austria, Italy (Trentino-Alto Adige), as well as New Zealand and the United States.

Wines with a unique style: richness, smoothness and intensity

Wines made from Gewurztraminer are instantly recognizable: a golden color, a very expressive nose, and a generous palate. They offer aromas of exotic fruits (lychee, mango), flowers (rose, violet), and candied citrus, often accompanied by sweet spices such as ginger or cloves. In Alsace, this grape variety can produce Vendanges Tardives ( Late Harvest) or Sélections de Grains Nobles (Selection of Noble Grapes ), sweet wines of great complexity, perfect for special occasions.

Food and wine pairings with Gewurztraminer

Gewurztraminer is a valuable ally in gastronomy. Its powerful aromas and structure make it ideal with spicy or sweet-and-savory dishes. It enhances Asian cuisine (Thai curry, Indian food), tagines with dried fruit, foie gras, and strong cheeses like Munster or Roquefort. The sweeter versions pair perfectly with fruit desserts or apricot tarts.
