2014 vintage: balance and renewal after excesses
The year 2014 marked a return to balance after two unpredictable vintages. The wines produced this year are distinguished by their freshness, structure, and aging potential. At Les Vins de Carole, we offer a selection of 2014 wines that beautifully express the diversity of French terroirs, with balanced, approachable, and expressive profiles.
A contrasting climate, but a beautiful end to the season
After a mild spring, the summer of 2014 was cool and wet, raising concerns about a difficult vintage. Fortunately, an exceptional September, warm and sunny, allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and completely. This resulted in red wines with good tannic structure, crisp and vibrant whites, and well-balanced rosés.
Successes in several regions
In Bordeaux, the red wines display lovely freshness, with supple tannins. In Burgundy, the Pinot Noirs are refined and expressive, the Chardonnays elegant and floral. In the Rhône Valley, the reds are fruity and balanced. In Alsace and the Loire Valley, the whites show beautiful tension and good aging potential. 2014 is also a good vintage for sparkling wines, particularly in Champagne.
Wines that are opening up today
After 10 years of aging, the 2014 wines have reached a beautiful maturity. The reds are rounded, and the aromas have evolved towards more complex notes. These are perfect wines to serve with a refined meal or to enrich a personal cellar. Our selected cuvées present harmonious profiles, typical of their terroir.
Food and wine pairings for the 2014 vintage
A 2014 Bordeaux red will pair well with a ribeye steak or a game terrine. A white Burgundy will enhance seafood or a risotto. Rhône reds go well with stews or grilled meats. White wines complement fish, fresh cheeses, or poultry in cream sauce.
