From the Chardonnay with its notes of golden citrus and ripe apple to the generous, floral, apricot-scented Viognier, the whites follow one another with immediate aromatic expression. The Reflets Secrets rosé brings delicate, fruity freshness, with notes of strawberry and white peach. The reds then unfold the full range of southern grapes: peppery, fruity Syrah, fleshy Mourvèdre with hints of garrigue, velvety Merlot, silky Pinot Noir and the GSM blend with its sunny, spicy accents, each revealing a facet of the Languedoc terroir.
This set is an invitation to taste gradually, over several evenings. Serve the whites and the rosé between 8 and 10 °C as an aperitif or with summer grills, and bring the reds up to 16-18 °C to go with slow-cooked meats, tagines or boards of aged cheeses.
Our team's opinion
Twelve cuvées, twelve characters, one terroir: this is the Languedoc in all its diversity. This Les Jamelles set is our top recommendation for offering a taste of travel in a glass, or for organising a lovely evening of discovery at home.
Malbec: the black grape variety with a strong character
Malbec is an intense red grape variety, emblematic of Southwest France and a true icon of Argentinian vineyards. It appeals to lovers of powerful, deeply colored, and generous wines, offering rich aromas of black fruit, spices, and sometimes oaky notes when aged in oak barrels. Malbec is synonymous with character and structure, both in its French and South American versions.
Origin and production areas
Originating in southwestern France, Malbec has a long history in the Cahors appellation, where it is also known as "Côt." In this region, it produces dense, tannic wines with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, licorice, and forest floor. Since the late 20th century, Argentina has made it its specialty: cultivated in the Mendoza region, Malbec there yields expressive, more supple wines, often characterized by great fruit purity and remarkable freshness.
Wine styles and characteristics
Malbec is renowned for its deep purple color and tannic structure. In France, it is often rustic and complex, while in Argentina, it tends to be rounder and fruitier. Aging in oak barrels imparts notes of vanilla, cocoa, roasted coffee, or sweet spices, while also softening the wine. Malbec can be enjoyed young for its intense fruitiness, or aged to reveal more complex aromas and a long, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairings with Malbec
Malbec is ideal for pairing with flavorful and characterful dishes: grilled or braised red meats, prime rib, roast lamb, duck breast, and slow-cooked dishes like cassoulet or chili con carne. It also pairs perfectly with mature hard cheeses (Cantal, Ossau-Iraty, Manchego). In Argentina, it is naturally associated with the famous asados, the country's iconic beef barbecues.
Our selection of Malbec
Les Vins de Carole offers a carefully curated selection of Malbec wines from Cahors, Argentina, and other regions where this grape variety thrives. These are wines with strong personalities, sure to appeal to both lovers of full-bodied reds and those curious to explore international wines.
