Philosophy and History
Coming from a long line of winemakers, Pierre-Yves Colin founded his own estate in 2001 with his wife, Caroline Morey. After honing his skills at the family estate, Marc Colin, he decided to strike out on his own in 2005. He started with a 6-hectare vineyard and a small négociant business. Today, the estate covers approximately 13 hectares, two-thirds of which are owned and one-third from carefully selected purchased grapes. The couple embodies a demanding and modern vision of Burgundy, while respecting the region's winemaking traditions.
Production specifics
The estate is renowned for its terroir-conscious viticultural practices. The soils are worked or grassed according to the topography, with particular attention paid to the health of the vines. The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, seeking a perfect balance between acidity and concentration. Winemaking is minimally interventionist: the white grapes are pressed as whole bunches, and fermentation takes place in 350-liter barrels, approximately 30% of which are new oak. No lees stirring is performed in order to preserve the purity of the aromas. The extended aging process (15 to 20 months) allows the wines to fully express their finesse. Bottling is done unfiltered, using natural corks, and each bottle is waxed for optimal preservation.
Recognitions

His wines, such as Saint-Aubin Hommage à Marguerite, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets, and Bâtard-Montrachet, regularly receive very high scores in specialist guides and are praised for their intensity, balance, and length. The estate's wines grace the wine lists of the world's finest restaurants.
