2016 vintage: remarkable balance and precision

The 2016 vintage is considered one of the most accomplished of the decade, particularly in Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley. After a challenging start to the season, the exceptional late summer allowed for slow and complete ripening, resulting in wines that are powerful, refined, and remarkably fresh. At Les Vins de Carole, we have selected 2016 wines of exceptional precision, combining depth, elegance, and aging potential.

Contrasting weather and a brilliant finale

Spring 2016 was wet, resulting in late flowering. However, a long, sunny, dry summer, particularly in September, saved the vintage. The harvest, carried out in ideal conditions, yielded perfectly ripe, balanced, and concentrated grapes.

Successes in all regions

In Bordeaux, the 2016 wines are among the best of recent decades, with silky tannins, beautiful tension, and vibrant fruit. In Burgundy, wines are scarce due to frost, but of very high quality. The Rhône, Loire, and Alsace regions also produced wines of great aromatic purity and fine balance.

Wines for aging par excellence

The structure, natural acidity, and concentration of the 2016 vintage make these wines perfectly suited for long-term cellaring. However, some are already very approachable, particularly those from the more approachable appellations or cuvées specifically crafted for their deliciousness.

Food and wine pairings

A 2016 Bordeaux pairs wonderfully with red meat or a festive dish. A red Burgundy goes well with mushroom dishes, and a Rhône with Provençal cuisine. White wines are perfect with fish or pressed cheeses.
