2012 vintage: concentration, elegance and beautiful evolution
The 2012 vintage stands out as a winemaker's vintage: a technical year, marked by demanding weather conditions, but one that allowed the most meticulous producers to craft balanced, concentrated wines with excellent aging potential. At Les Vins de Carole, we have selected ripe, expressive 2012 wines, ready to reveal their full complexity.
A two-speed vintage
Spring 2012 was rainy and cool, slowing flowering in some areas. Fortunately, the hot, dry summer—particularly in August and September—allowed for excellent concentration in the berries. Yields were often low, but the harvested grapes were healthy and rich. The result: dense, well-structured wines with a balance between fruit ripeness and freshness.
Successes in all regions
In Bordeaux, the 2012 vintage was particularly successful on the Right Bank, with round and velvety Merlots, notably in Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. In Burgundy, the Pinot Noirs are intense, precise, and have good aging potential. The Rhône wines offer richness and depth, especially in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Crozes-Hermitage. In the Loire Valley and Southwest France, many winemakers distinguished themselves by producing balanced reds and expressive whites.
Mature wines, ready to be enjoyed
Twelve years after the harvest, the 2012 wines show a beautiful evolution: the tannins have softened, the aromas have become more complex, blending black fruit, sweet spices, and notes of leather or undergrowth, depending on the cuvée. These are perfect wines for immediate enjoyment, to be savored with a meal, on a special occasion, or to enrich your cellar with bottles that are already mature.
Food and wine pairings with the 2012 vintage
A 2012 Bordeaux will beautifully complement a roast beef, a game terrine, or a mature cheese. A red Burgundy will delicately accompany a duck breast or a stuffed quail. Rhône wines pair well with Mediterranean dishes, tagines, or braised meats. The 2012 whites, though rarer, complement cream-based dishes, poultry, or fine fish.
