Languedoc (Castelnau‑de‑Guers, Etang de Thau)
Domaine Muret, nestled near Castelnau-de-Guers, benefits from a unique terroir on the edge of the Thau Lagoon. The 20 hectares of vineyards lie on varied soils—limestone, clay-limestone, and gravel—which, combined with the maritime influence, give the wines a rare aromatic freshness. The terroir is characterized by the generous sunshine of the Languedoc region and sea breezes, which moderate the summer heat and prolong the ripening of the grapes. Traditionally planted with indigenous grape varieties such as Picpoul, the estate has also diversified its plantings with Chardonnay, Viognier, and Pinot Noir.
Domaine Muret is an integral part of Domaine de Castelnau, a wine estate whose origins date back to the 13th century. For over twenty years, Christophe and Béatrice Muret have managed the estate with passion and exacting standards. They perpetuate a spirit that blends medieval heritage with modern winemaking practices. Their ambition: to preserve the historical memory of the terroir while revealing its fresh and elegant qualities, thanks to meticulous and respectful practices.
- Harvesting: exclusively manual, with careful sorting in the vineyard to harvest only the perfectly ripe bunches. - Destemming and crushing: the grapes are lightly crushed before pressing, guaranteeing an extraction that respects the fruit. - Winemaking: short macerations (for reds and whites depending on the cuvée) and gentle pressing. The best juices are selected for the main cuvée. - Fermentation: carried out at controlled temperature, mainly in stainless steel tanks, but some vintages benefit from aging in barrels. - Aging: on fine lees, for several months, in order to bring aromatic complexity, roundness and texture to the wine.
The Domaine Muret range embodies a harmonious blend of Languedoc tradition and elegant modernity. The estate's Picpoul is distinguished by its saline freshness, ideal with seafood. The Chardonnay wines reveal structured richness and beautiful acidity, while the Viognier exudes aromas of white-fleshed fruit. As for the Pinot Noir, although a minority, it surprises with its distinction, notes of small red berries, and fine texture—an unexpected achievement for a Mediterranean estate.
Recognition comes from specialist critics and loyal customers who appreciate the stylistic consistency: a clear and fresh signature, true to the values of the terroir. The wines are particularly well received at regional and national events, where their balance and finesse are highlighted.
