Domaine Bruno Colin – The authentic expression of the Côte de Beaune terroirs

Philosophy and History

After technical and commercial training at the Beaune wine school, Bruno Colin began his career in 1993 at the family estate, Michel Colin-Deleger. In 2003, the family property was divided into three independent estates, including Bruno Colin's, which produced its first vintage in 2004. Since then, the estate has grown to nearly 8.55 hectares spread across the prestigious villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Dezize-les-Maranges.

The estate's philosophy is clear: to offer the purest expression of the terroir, highlighting the unique character of each plot. Bruno Colin prioritizes respectful viticulture, with mechanical soil work (plowing and hilling) and organic farming practices to protect the vineyard while controlling yields. Vineyard management is meticulous and adapted to the rhythm of the seasons and climatic conditions, because "no two years are alike," which gives each vintage its unique character.

Appellations and terroirs

The estate produces 22 appellations, including 14 Premier Crus and 2 Grand Crus. The vineyards extend across exceptional terroirs in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, with varied limestone soils that influence the finesse and complexity of the wines. Both the white and red wines benefit from optimal sun exposure, promoting balanced ripening of the grapes.

Iconic grape varieties

Chardonnay for the white wines, Pinot Noir for the reds, and Aligoté for certain cuvées. The whites are distinguished by their minerality, finesse, and tension, while the reds express elegance, lusciousness, and fruitiness.

Production specifics

The grapes are harvested by hand by a dedicated team of around forty people. Winemaking is carried out using modern equipment: pneumatic presses, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and aging in carefully selected oak barrels. For the white wines, fermentation takes place in barrels with a moderate proportion of new oak (20 to 25%), followed by aging for 12 months on fine lees. The red wines are destemmed, cold-macerated before alcoholic fermentation in tanks, and then aged for approximately 12 months in barrels with 25% new oak. Since 2013, the estate has waxed the majority of its bottles to enhance and preserve their flavor.

Wine range

White wines: Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Chardonnay, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Le Charmois, Chassagne-Montrachet white and its Premiers Crus (Les Chaumées, Les Vergers, Les Chenevottes, La Maltroie, Morgeot, La Boudriotte, En Remilly, Blanchot Dessus), Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Truffière, Les Demoiselles, as well as the prestigious Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet.

Red wines: Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Santenay Vieilles Vignes, Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes, Maranges Premier Cru La Fussière, Santenay Premier Cru Les Gravières, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru La Maltroie.
