Morey-Saint-Denis: a rare balance between power and finesse

Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, between two giants, Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation offers wine lovers a unique style, combining the power of the former with the elegance of the latter. Recognized as a village AOC since 1936, Morey-Saint-Denis is a true gem for connoisseurs seeking subtle wines of remarkable complexity.

A prestigious and diverse terroir

The Morey-Saint-Denis vineyard covers approximately 150 hectares, nearly half of which is classified as Premier Cru or Grand Cru. This high concentration of exceptional wines is rare in Burgundy and testifies to the outstanding quality of its terroir. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone, well-drained, and benefit from an ideal east/southeast exposure on the sunny slopes of the Côte.

Morey-Saint-Denis boasts five prestigious Grands Crus: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart, and Bonnes-Mares (shared with Chambolle). In addition, there are around twenty Premier Cru vineyards, each contributing its own nuance, texture, and identity to the wine.

Exceptional red wines and a few rare whites

The red wines of Morey-Saint-Denis are made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes. They are distinguished by their intense color, their complex nose blending red and black fruits, spices, undergrowth, and sometimes floral notes. On the palate, they display a beautiful structure, silky tannins, and a long finish. These are wines for aging, gaining in finesse and depth with time.

Although relatively unknown, the white wines of this appellation, made from Chardonnay grapes, are very elegant. They combine freshness, minerality, and aromas of white flowers, offering a refined alternative to the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune.

Food and wine pairings and tasting moments

A red Morey-Saint-Denis pairs perfectly with elegant dishes such as beef fillet in a pastry crust, duck breast, porcini mushroom risotto, or game birds. Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines deserve to be enjoyed with fine cuisine or mature cheeses like Époisses or Brie de Meaux. As for the rare white wines, they complement seafood, veal in a cream sauce, or dry goat cheeses beautifully.
