Quincy: the freshness and elegance of Sauvignon Blanc in the Centre-Loire region
Located in the Cher department, in the heart of the Centre-Loire region , the Quincy appellation is one of the oldest AOCs in France. Exclusively dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc , it produces dry, aromatic white wines of remarkable finesse. Less well-known than Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, Quincy is nonetheless a hidden gem, prized by those who appreciate freshness and minerality.
An ancient history, a preserved terroir
Viticulture in Quincy dates back to the Gallo-Roman era. In 1936, Quincy became the second officially recognized appellation in France after Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This 300-hectare vineyard extends across the communes of Quincy and Brinay. The sandy and gravelly soils, rich in silica , combined with a temperate climate, allow for optimal ripening of the Sauvignon Blanc while preserving its natural vibrancy.
A pure Sauvignon Blanc
The white wines of Quincy are characterized by their expressive aromas : notes of white flowers, boxwood, citrus, white peach, and exotic fruits . On the palate, they are taut, precise, with a lovely minerality and a refreshing finish. Less heady than some Sauvignon Blancs from the south, they shine with their elegance, precision, and drinkability .
A unique and harmonious style
Unlike Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, Quincy wines are not often oaked. They are aged primarily in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. These wines are best enjoyed young, within 2 to 4 years , but some cuvées gain complexity after a few years. They embody a crystalline and sincere expression of Sauvignon Blanc .
Food and wine pairings
Quincy wines pair wonderfully with seafood, grilled or lemon-sauced fish, sushi, composed salads, or goat cheeses . Their freshness and vibrancy also make them a perfect complement to exotic cuisine, such as Thai dishes or ceviche.
Why choose a Quincy?
Because it offers an affordable and high-quality alternative to the great white wines of the Centre-Loire region. Because it accurately expresses the typicity of Sauvignon Blanc on a unique terroir. Because it combines immediate pleasure, aromatic precision, and finesse . Quincy is an appellation for connoisseurs , to be (re)discovered without hesitation.
