Which wines should I choose to accompany seafood?

Seafood is distinguished by its freshness, its subtle briny flavor, and its delicate texture. To showcase these marine delicacies, the choice of wine is crucial. Dry white, sparkling, or rosé, each style offers a perfect complement to these exceptional dishes. Les Vins de Carole offers a carefully curated selection for harmonious and subtle pairings.

Dry white wines: the essential pairing

Dry, mineral white wines are the classic companions to seafood platters. A Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine sur Lie , a Picpoul de Pinet , or a Gros Plant du Pays Nantais offers a liveliness and salinity that perfectly complement oysters, clams, and cockles.

White wines made from Sauvignon Blanc, such as Sancerre or Menetou-Salon, bring a tension and citrus aromas that beautifully complement shrimp, langoustines, or whelks. For a more floral touch, a Corsican Vermentino or a dry Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley are also recommended.

Sparkling wines: finesse and freshness

A Brut Nature Champagne or a Crémant de Bourgogne are excellent choices for enjoying a seafood platter. Their fine bubbles and acidity provide a pleasant contrast to the briny flavor of the shellfish. They also pair beautifully with seafood served as appetizers or in chilled verrines.

Also consider natural sparkling wines or Italian sparkling wines like Franciacorta for more original pairings.

Light rosé and red wines for cooked dishes

If seafood is included in cooked dishes (paella, grilled seafood, fish soups), you can opt for a fresh and fruity rosé such as a Côtes de Provence or a Tavel . Their suppleness and lightness will perfectly complement summer dishes.

In some cases, a very light Pinot Noir or a Gamay may be suitable, provided it is served slightly chilled and with dishes that have more pronounced aromas.

Service tips

Dry white and sparkling wines should be served chilled, between 8 and 10°C. Rosé wines should be served around 10°C, and light reds around 13-14°C if the dish allows. Serve your seafood very cold, and opt for serving it by the glass to fully appreciate the pairings.

A refined, briny selection

At Les Vins de Carole, we have selected wines from the French coastal regions (Loire, Languedoc, Corsica) and appellations renowned for their freshness. Trust our expertise to pair your seafood with precision and elegance. Whether for a casual tasting or a festive meal, find the perfect wines here to enhance your seafood dishes.
