Fourth Wave Wine – The audacity of modern wine trading from Australia

Domain name

Fourth Wave Wine

Wine region

New South Wales & South Australia

Appellations and terroirs

Although Fourth Wave Wine does not own any vineyards, the company collaborates closely with family-run estates in six countries: Australia (Limestone Coast, Barossa, Coonawarra), New Zealand, France, Italy, Spain, and Argentina. The terroirs chosen are representative: limestone or clay-limestone soils in Australia, diverse European terroirs, and modern wine regions. Each appellation is selected for its ability to express modernity, freshness, and elegance in approachable wines.

Iconic grape varieties

Sangiovese, Shiraz/Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Riesling...

Philosophy and History

Founded in 2009 by Nicholas and Frances Crampton in Newcastle, New South Wales, Fourth Wave Wine quickly revolutionized the import and creation of consumer-centric wines. Nicholas, a former sommelier and talented marketer, partnered with renowned Australian winemaker Corey Ryan to create iconic brands such as Take It To The Grave, Elephant in the Room, Little Giant, and Mullet—Australia's first hard wine range. The company embodies a strategic vision: to innovate by anticipating consumer expectations, offering fresh, elegant, and fruit-forward wines.

Production specifics

Fourth Wave doesn't own a cellar or vineyard: it's a modern wine merchant. It orchestrates the entire chain, from grape sourcing to bottling. Its method: select partnerships with local estates, define precise specifications (grape variety, ripeness, winemaking), and then entrust the winemaking to partner winemakers. The wines are packaged—in bottles or innovative cans—according to the brand format: premium wines, trendy canned wines, or even high-alcohol "hard wines." The launch of Mullet (ABV 13.5–17%) in 2024 is an example of this off-center production, poised to surprise.

Recognitions

Fourth Wave Wine has garnered critical acclaim both in Australia and internationally. It is frequently cited as a pioneering figure in the new generation of wine merchants. The launch of Mullet was widely hailed as Australia's first hard wine brand, praised for its boldness and quality.

This positioning makes Fourth Wave a powerful and visionary player, reinventing wine in the modern era.
