Champagne is undoubtedly the most famous and prestigious sparkling wine in the world. Produced exclusively in the delimited region around the cities of Reims and Épernay, this wine is synonymous with celebration, elegance, and tradition. Made using the traditional method known as the "Champagne method," Champagne combines finesse, aromatic complexity, and freshness, reflecting a unique terroir and time-honored expertise.
The Champagne vineyards cover approximately 34,000 hectares, spread across several sub-regions: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte des Blancs, the Côte des Bar, and the Sézanne region. Its cool climate and chalky soils give the grapes a lively acidity essential for producing high-quality sparkling wines. The region's history is closely linked to the evolution of sparkling wine since the 17th century, with iconic Champagne houses and passionate winemakers.
The three main grape varieties in Champagne are Pinot Noir , Pinot Meunier , and Chardonnay . Pinot Noir brings power and structure, Pinot Meunier fruitiness and roundness, while Chardonnay offers finesse, freshness, and elegance. Champagnes can be Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay), Blanc de Noirs (Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier), rosé, vintage or non-vintage, brut, demi-sec, or even extra-brut, reflecting a wide diversity of styles suitable for all occasions.
Champagne is the perfect accompaniment to an aperitif, but it's also ideal for enhancing a wide range of dishes: seafood, fine fish, poultry, refined cuisine, and even some desserts. Its effervescence and vivacity make it a perfect choice for awakening the taste buds and celebrating life's special moments.
At Les Vins de Carole, we have selected a range of elegant, authentic, and varied Champagnes for you: cuvées from independent winemakers, renowned houses, exceptional vintages, and everyday Champagnes.
