Beaujolais, located between the Mâconnais and Lyonnais regions, is a dynamic and historic wine-growing area, famous for its fruity Gamay-based red wines, but also for its diverse terroirs and styles. Behind the festive image of Beaujolais Nouveau lies an exceptional vineyard with renowned crus and increasingly sought-after white wines. A region to rediscover for its quality, accessibility, and authenticity.
The Beaujolais vineyards stretch for about fifty kilometers south of Burgundy. While the region is world-renowned for Beaujolais Nouveau , released every third Thursday of November, it also boasts 12 appellations: Beaujolais , Beaujolais-Villages , and the 10 Beaujolais crus (Morgon, Fleurie, Juliénas, Brouilly, etc.), each with its own distinct character. The history of Beaujolais dates back to Roman times, and the region has long been influenced by the major wine merchants of Lyon and Burgundy.
Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc reigns supreme in Beaujolais. It produces supple, fruity, floral, and sometimes spicy red wines, depending on the soil and winemaking style. Carbonic and semi-carbonic maceration techniques are emblematic of the region, resulting in wines that are delicious to drink young. However, some wines made using more traditional methods can rival Burgundian Pinot Noirs in structure and aging potential. Beaujolais also produces rosés and white wines (made from Chardonnay), which are lively and refreshing.
Beaujolais offers a wide variety of wines: from light reds perfect for aperitifs or picnics to deeper, spicier, and more structured wines to accompany roast meats, charcuterie, poultry, or mild cheeses. Crus like Morgon or Moulin-à-Vent are ideal with flavorful dishes, while Brouilly or Chiroubles shine with more delicate fare. The white wines pair beautifully with fish, seafood, or fresh cheeses.
Les Vins de Carole invites you to discover or rediscover the many facets of Beaujolais through a selection of authentic wines, produced by winemakers committed to quality viticulture. From fruity Beaujolais Nouveau to deep and elegant crus, including summer rosés and mineral whites, our range reveals the full richness of a region undergoing a renaissance.
